Snow
descends thick and somehow dark against the sky’s bland grey blank, and Brother
Skunk sits watching it all come on, his hands wrapped around a coffee, his
stocking soles up on the chair in front of the radiator, and his eyes going
back and again to the clock confirm the diminishing minutes until his departure
for work.
Skunk:
Something that’s been happening at... I don’t... OW!
He
sets his feet down onto the floor, rearranging himself on the chair so to do,
before resuming his morning prayer.
Skunk:
I don’t know what it is about the... the situation with the mugs at work but...
it seems that, it seems every time I, you know there are mugs there, and
eh, some of them some of them I know belong to people, specifically, but
most of them... most of them are just mugs that, sometimes the reps bring in
mugs, you know with their publisher’s logo or, whatever, specific books that,
you know, publicity material for these things. Sometimes they bring them in...
and eh, so there are, you know, there are plenty of mugs, more
than one for every member of staff but it seems, it just seems like every time
I settle on a particular, you know, mug to use... Right now I’m using a Random
House one, somebody, you know, I use it and wash it and put it away, and then
the next time I go to use it, it’s eh, you know, it’s got some coffee in the
bottom or it’s got that kind of, like a silting of sugar... and eh, it doesn’t
matter what I do, you know if I if I if, you know... The ones I’d used before,
the same thing happened: I’d see a mug that wasn’t being used and think okay
well nobody’s using that one I’ll use that one and make that one my own
and so I use it and wash it and put it away and then of course, the next time I
go to get it same thing, it’s, you know, it’s dirty again. I don’t know whether
somebody’s deliberately... surely not, I don’t think so, maybe it’s just
a coincidence I don’t know. But I think maybe I should go and get a... I should
go buy a mug or something, and then keep it at my, at my eh... my work station.
Maybe I should do that tomorrow.
It’s
time.
