Panel 1
Interior, living room. Holding onto his security blanket, Linus van Pelt, at panel left, is addressing his older sister Lucy, panel right.
cog: Having spoken with Grandma, I’ve decided to give up sucking my thumb.

Panel 2
Within the same panel layout as previous, Lucy replies,
cog: Giving up sucking your thumb is only half the battle. What about that stupid blanket?

Panel 3
Solo panel for Linus, who in medium close-up stands with one finger raised as if preaching, his eyes closed to better recall the exact quotation.
cog: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

Panel 4
Lucy is now seen crossing the panel, right to left, rolling up her sleeves and saying
cog: At the very least you better hope it can double as a bandage.

Panel 1
Interior, living room. Lucy is slouching in her beanbag watching a tv located on the panel’s extreme right edge. Linus is standing behind her, still holding his blanket and sucking his thumb.
cog: Go on then, genius. What’s your amazing plan to quit sucking your thumb?

Panel 2
Medium close-up of Linus who has removed his thumb from his mouth to reply,
cog: It’s easy. I shall simply soak my thumb in Dad’s green bottle.

Panel 3
Linus continues to elucidate as he exits, panel left.
cog: That should spoil my thumb to such a degree as to deter me from sucking it.

Panel 4
With Linus absent, Lucy, still watching the television, is now the subject of the panel.
cog: Knowing Linus, he’ll probably develop a taste for Dad’s green bottle.

Panel 1
Exterior. Linus and his friend Charlie Brown are standing behind a low wall, Linus is at panel left, Charlie Brown at panel right.
cog: My grandma’s right, Charlie Brown. I’ve reached the age where I really should give up sucking my thumb.
cog: Sucking your thumb? What about that blanket?

Panel 2
Panel as preceding.
cog: You know what they say, Charlie Brown: “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Panel 3
As Linus exits panel left, Charlie Brown is shouting
cog: YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE THEY SAY?!

Panel 4
Charlie Brown, now alone at the wall, is sucking his thumb.
cog: “When in Rome...”

Panel 1
Exterior. Linus stands panel left, addressing Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy who is lying on top of his kennel at panel right, eyes closed.
cog: Snoopy, I’ve finally decided to give up my blanket and sucking my thumb.

Panel 2
Panel as preceding.
cog: Actually, I’m just giving up sucking my thumb. The blanket will go later.

Panel 3
Medium close-up on Linus as he says
cog: I think it’s easier to break an addiction one step at a time.

Panel 4
Linus absent, Snoopy is now centre panel, eyes still closed, thinking
cog: He’s right. When I diet, the first thing to go is the parsley.

Panel 1
Exterior. Linus and Charlie Brown’s little sister Sally are walking home from school, crossing the panel from left to right. Sally is in front.
cog: My grandma wants me to give up sucking my thumb.
cog: I heard she also wanted you to get rid of that stupid blanket.

Panel 2
While Sally walks on, Linus stops, and with one finger raised points out
cog: “A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.”

Panel 3
Sally has turned round and regards Linus.

Panel 4
Panel as preceding, this time with Sally asking
cog: I’m sorry, did you just say something?

Panel 1
Exterior, as preceding strip. Linus at panel left is being addressed by Sally, panel right.
cog: I don’t care if you keep sucking your thumb, Linus. You’ll always be my Sweet Babboo.

Panel 2
Medium close-up on Linus, shouting,
cog: I AM NOT, NEVER WAS, AND NEVER WILL BE YOUR SWEET BABBOO!

Panel 3
Both in shock, the two regard each other across the ensuing silence.

Panel 4
Panel as preceding, Sally saying
cog: I hope it chokes you, you blockhead.

Panel 1
Interior, living room. At panel right, Linus in classic pose, thumb in mouth and blanket cradled to the side of his face. Lucy is entering from panel left,
cog: I see you’re back to sucking your thumb. Boy, that sure didn’t last long.

Panel 2
Passing by Linus toward panel right, Lucy says
cog: I can’t quite figure out what disgusts me more, the weakness of your resolve or the simple sight of you.

Panel 3
His thumb now removed from his mouth, the blanket on the ground but still not relinquished from his fist, Linus is slightly tipped back, shouting
cog: ONE DAY YOU’LL BE SORRY FOR BEING SO CRABBY TO ME! ONE DAY I’LL SIMPLY... DISAPPEAR FOREVER!

Panel 4
Medium close-up of Linus who continues to stare across the empty panel, his eyes a little sad, his mouth a wrinkle of both determination and serenity.
