The
maximum paid leave granted the bookstore cogs upon bereavement (excepting the
death of uncles, aunts and step-relatives which did not qualify) was five days;
that for either spouse or offspring, while the passing of a parent would merit
two days less. This was not to suggest in any way whatsoever that three days of
grieving should suffice, rather it was to remind the staff that the time which
heals all wounds was also the time that is money, and therefore any additional
period of distress prohibiting the cogs’ return to work would result in debit
from either their salary or holiday accrued.
By
the time Brother Skunk reappeared at the shop following his mother’s death, the
